Chandigarh should have Film Institute: Kirron Kher

BJP Member of Parliament Kirron Kher has demanded a film institute for Chandigarh.

In a letter written to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Kher has requested him to grant a film institute to Chandigarh in the upcoming Budget Session.

Chandigarh caters to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and being a hub for education requires a film institute to impart requisite skills to the youth of the region.

Punjab's cine industry is thriving yet the talented young boys and girls from the region do not get the opportunity to enter FTII in Pune because of limited seats, and their talent gets wasted.

The region has the talent and a film institute has to be there in the city, she says.
